16m Persons Receive Cancer Sensitization, Screening Services

LAPO sensitized over 16 million community members on cancer prevention between March and April 2018 under the LAPO Community Campaign for Cancer Control (LAPO-C4) project in Nigeria. 3,033 persons were screened during the period and 51 referred for treatment.

LAPO is implementing the LAPO-C4 project in Lagos, Imo, Abuja, Rivers and Edo state towards mitigating the health and socio-economic implications of the ailment in Nigeria. The project consists of awareness creation, screening and referral services aimed at preventionand early detection.

Lack of basic cancer screening facilities in primary health centres and high cost of pre-malignant surgery are major challenges hindering the fight against cancer in the country. LAPO therefore solicits for funds from governments, donor agencies and private organisations towards the success and sustainability of the project.
