Universal Access to Female Condom (UAFC) 2009 – 2015

The Universal Access to Female Condom(UAFC) project was aimed at promoting family planning, reduce Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STIs), HIV spread and enable women have greater control and protection against diseases. The 3-year project commenced in 2009 in partnership with Oxfam Novib, Netherlands with Lagos, Edo and Delta as pilot states. 

Under the project, LAPO collaborated with the Society for Family Health (SFH) to create community awareness and develop an enabling environment aimed at increasing demand for and access to Elegance® Female Condom in Edo State.Activities included advocacy visit to opinion leaders and policy makers, community mapping and health facility assessment in various communities across Edo State. The organization trained master trainers as well as sensitized over 10,000 community members drawn from community-based organizations/ associations (CBOs), support group of People Living with HIV/AIDS, trade associations, including motorbike transport workers, youths, officers/ men of the Federal Road Safety Corps and the Nigeria Police. The intervention created widespread community awareness about the importance and correct use of Elegance® Female Condom with a corresponding increase in demand for the product.
