LAPO Forum Seeks End To Extreme Poverty
The 20th edition of the LAPO Annual Development Forum held on Wednesday, November 13, 2013 at Uyi Grand Hotel in G.R.A, Benin City with a consensus on plausible ways to overcome extreme poverty in Nigeria.  



The Forum, which drew participants from the civil society, government, academia, market women and partners in development, was held under the theme, "Ending Extreme Poverty In Nigeria: Issues and Way Forward." Read More... 




LAPO Screens 8,623 Persons for HIV, Blood Pressure, Malaria, Others

Lift Above Poverty Organization (LAPO) screened 8,623 community members and clients for HIV, Malaria, Blood Pressure (BP), Blood Sugar, Hepatitis and diabetes in November 2013, towards promoting early detection and management of tropical diseases in Nigeria.



World AIDS Day: LAPO Creates Awareness, Intensifies HIV Counseling and Testing Services

LAPO marked the 2013 World AIDS Day with community health awareness rallies and seminars, as well as provided free HIV Counselling and Testing (HCT) services in target communities across the country. Health Manager, Mr. Honestus Ayo Obadiora who described stigma and discrimination as a major obstacle in the fight against HIV as it discourages people from seeking HIV/AIDS services, encouraged people to undertake HIV test regularly as well as support those living with the ailment, adding that early detection and treatment prevent development of full blown AIDS which is often fatal.


LAPO Mobilizes Communities Against Malaria

Lift Above Poverty Organization (LAPO) has embarked on social mobilization on malaria control in collaboration with the Civil Society on Malaria, Immunization and Nutrition (ACOMIN) and the Society for Family Health (SFH) in selected local government areas in Edo State under the Global Fund Round 8 Malaria project.

The organization is currently creating demand for malaria control services, educating community members and promoting positive health-seeking behavior through prevention with Long Lasting Treated Mosquito Nets, Rapid Diagnostic Tests (RDTs) and use of Artemisinin-based Combination Therapy (ACT), which has been subsidized for pregnant women and children below the age of five in all public health facilities.


Gloryland Group Of Schools Wins LAPO Quiz Contest

Benin City - Gloryland Group of Schools, Auchi, in Edo North Senatorial Zone has emerged overall winner of the 2013 edition of the Lift Above Poverty Organization (LAPO) Annual Quiz Competition. The school defeated 61 public and private secondary schools who participated in the competition, held in collaboration with the Edo State Ministry of Education, across the State.
