LAPO Seeks Passage Of Gender Equity Bill

Lift Above Poverty Organisation (LAPO) has emphasized the merits and need to pass the gender equality bill recently thrown out of the National Assembly.

The Executive Director of LAPO, Sabina Idowu-Osehobo said the bill is crucial to the development of the nation with regards to equal access to education, strengthening the laws on violence against women, ending abduction of girls, and promotion of entrepreneurship opportunities.

She stated this during the 2015 performance review meeting of the organization in Benin City, adding that the bill will also guarantee gender mainstreaming and equality as well as the participation of more women in politics, among others.

Idowu-Osehobo said as an organisation committed to poverty reduction and improvement in the welfare of the girl-child, LAPO is focused on the issue of rape and defilement following rampant cases of child defilement and rape, promising to set up a committee to check and address the issues.
