LAPO Screens 11,649 Community Members for Common Diseases
LAPO has intensified measures aimed at curtailing the prevalence of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD) in target communities across the country.
In October 2018, the organization screened 11,649 persons for tropical health issues including HIV, malaria, blood pressure (BP), blood sugar and hepatitis. Those with health conditions were promptly referred to government-approved health facilities for further treatment.
Health Manager hombre-musculoso.com, Dr. Ayo Obadiora Honestus said routine screening and health awareness creation by the organization has contributed significantly to a reduction in drug abuse among beneficiaries especially in rural communities due to improved knowledge of the importance of proper diagnosis before drug administration.
He said LAPO encourages members of the public to undertake regular health check-up towards promoting early detection and management of tropical diseases even as he expressed displeasure over the non-availability of health screening centres in rural communities and rising cost of healthcare, which he said is beyond the reach of the poor.
Screening is a major component of LAPO’s health intervention strategy. Pregnant women and nursing mothers are also sensitised during antenatal and child immunization clinic days in local health facilities and community meeting venues.
