GEJ, Adeleye, Others To Speak At LAPO Dev Forum

 

The Lift Above Poverty Organization (LAPO), in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Health, is set to host the 28th edition of the Annual LAPO Development Forum on Tuesday, October 26, 2021.

The event with the theme ‘Promoting Community-Based Cancer Control Programme in Nigeria: The LAPO-C4 Initiative’ will be hosted at the Yar’Adua International Conference Centre, Abuja.

Confirmed to speak at the event are His Excellency, Ex-President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan GCFR; former Edo State Deputy Governor and Chief of Staff to the President, Chief Mike Oghiadomhe while Prof Omokhoa Adeleye, a Professor of Public Health and Community Medicine at the University of Benin will deliver the keynote lecture.

Other eminent personalities expected to grace the occasion include the Hon. Minister of Health, Dr. E. Osagie Ehanire, Ondo State First Lady, Her Excellency, Mrs Betty Akeredolu, government functionaries, policymakers, political and religious leaders, the academia, Civil Society Organizations, Professional institutions, Development Partners and health practitioners.

LAPO Executive Director, Dr Honestus Ayo Obadiora said the forum would “address the challenges inhibiting Community-Based Cancer Control Programme in Nigeria with workable initiatives to ensure access to quality cancer prevention and treatment services in rural communities as well as harness national strategies and policies for effective cancer control in Nigeria.”

Initiated in 1994, the Annual LAPO Development Forum, which has become a faculty of development in its own right has over the years stimulated discourse on the development agenda in Nigeria and Africa with very realistic solutions canvassed by guest lecturers and conferees.

The discourse has played host to distinguished personalities and top government functionaries in the past including Gen. Yakubu Gowon, Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Former CBN Governor, Prof. Charles Soludo and Hon. Justice Samson Uwaifo JSC (Rtd).
