Jonathan, Ehanire, Adeleye To Speak At LAPO Dev Forum

The Lift Above Poverty Organization (LAPO), in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Health, is set to host the 28th edition of the Annual LAPO Development Forum on Tuesday, October 26, 2021.

The event with the theme ‘Promoting Community-Based Cancer Control Programme in Nigeria: The LAPO-C4 Initiative’ will be hosted at the Yar’Adua International Conference Centre, Abuja.

Confirmed to speak at the event are His Excellency, Ex-President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan GCFR; Hon. Minister of Health, Dr. E. Osagie Ehanire, former Edo State Deputy Governor, His Excellency, Chief Mike Oghiadomhe, while Prof Omokhoa Adeleye, a Professor of Public Health and Community Medicine at the University of Benin will deliver the keynote lecture.

Government functionaries, policymakers, development partners, members of the diplomatic corps, political and religious leaders, the academia and Civil Society Organizations are expected to grace the occasion with imputs from key stakeholders.

Executive Director, LAPO, Dr Honestus Ayo Obadiora stated that the forum would “address the challenges inhibiting Community-Based Cancer Control Programme in Nigeria and evolve practical measures to facilitate access to quality cancer prevention and treatment services in rural communities as well as harness national strategies and policies to ensure effective cancer control in Nigeria.”

Initiated in 1994, the Annual LAPO Development Forum has become a faculty of development in its own right. The Forum has over the years stimulated discourse on the development agenda in Nigeria and Africa with very realistic solutions canvassed by guest lecturers and conferees.

The discourse has played host to distinguished personalities and top government functionaries in the past including Gen. Yakubu Gowon, Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Former CBN Governor, Prof. Charles Soludo and Hon. Justice Samson Uwaifo JSC (Rtd).
