LAPO Engages Edo Govt On Gender Inclusive Budgeting, Others

Lift Above Poverty Organization (LAPO) has enjoined the Edo State Government to improve the socio-economic conditions of women through the implementation of gender inclusive policies, projects and budgetary allocation.

Speaking during advocacy visit to the Edo State Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources, the Executive Director of LAPO, Dr. Honestus Ayobami Obadiora called on the government to improve access of women to farm inputs and credits, train and involve them in modern method of agricultural processing, production, preservation and storage.

He said the organization is currently implementing the Partnership for Advancing Women in Economic Development (PAWED) aimed at advancing women economic empowerment at local, state and national levels through increased budgetary allocation and implementation of gender inclusive policies and projects, in collaboration with the Development Research and Project Centre (dRPC), an intermediary non-profit organization.

Dr. Obadiora expressed worry that women are still being marginalized and subjected to untold socio-cultural and gender-based deprivations despite their potentials and enormous contributions to societal development.

In his response, the Permanent Secretary, Peter Aikhuomobhogbe said the state government is committed and working assiduously to achieve women economic empowerment through the implementation of various women-friendly policies and projects including 40% women inclusion in government intervention programmes and appointments in the state and promised to deepen these efforts in the ministry.
