LAPO Improves Community Health, Empowers 1.2m Nigerians

Lift Above Poverty Organization (LAPO) has improved the health conditions of 1,257,297 vulnerable community members across the country in 2020. This was disclosed by the Executive Director, Dr. Honestus Ayobami Obadiora during an interactive forum with Journalists in Benin City.

He said the beneficiaries were educated on maternal and child health practices with a key focus on maternal and child health, antenatal care and nutrition, family planning, water, sanitation, and hygiene.

The Executive Director expressed worry that a high percentage of women in Nigeria are vulnerable to illnesses, disability, and even death due to lack of access to comprehensive health services, a situation that has made the country one of the highest maternal mortality rates amongst developing nations.

Dr. Obadiora said LAPO was determined to change the narratives of high maternal mortality in Nigeria with its health intervention programme in order to mitigate the detrimental effect of maternal mortality on the socio-economic development of the nation.

He charged members of the public to imbibe the culture of regular medical checkups to enable early detection and management of health conditions, adding that routine health screening and awareness creation by the organization has contributed significantly to the well-being of community members.
