LAPO Improves Community Health, Screens 103,606 for Common Diseases
The Executive Director of Lift Above Poverty Organization (LAPO), Sabina Idowu-Osehobo has expressed the organization’s determination to curtail the incidence of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD) in target communities across the country.
She said LAPO screened and treated 103,606 community members for HIV, malaria, high blood pressure (BP), blood sugar, hepatitis and diabetes in target states including Lagos, Abuja, Nasarawa, Ogun, Ondo, Oyo, Osun and Edo in 2019.
She noted that regular health screening by the organization has contributed significantly to a reduction in drug abuse among beneficiaries especially in rural communities due to improved knowledge of the importance of proper diagnosis before drug administration.
She said LAPO encourages members of the public to undertake regular health check-up towards promoting early detection and management of tropical diseases even as he expressed displeasure over the non-availability of health screening centres in rural communities and the rising cost of healthcare, which he said is beyond the reach of the poor.
Screening is a major component of LAPO’s health intervention strategy. Pregnant women and nursing mothers are also sensitised during antenatal and child immunization clinic days in local health facilities and community meeting venues.
