LAPO Improves Health Conditions of 22m Community Members

Lift Above Poverty Organization (LAPO) improved the health conditions of 22,120,529 targeted community members across the country between January and June of 2021.

A total of 212,020 persons were reached through direct intervention by LAPO health community workers while 21,908,509 community members were reached via Information, Education and Communication materials.

The beneficiaries, who are mostly clients of LAPO Microfinance Bank, were sensitized on safe maternal and child health practices with key focus on antenatal care, nutrition, family planning, water, sanitation and hygiene.

They were equally screened for health issues such as blood pressure, hepatitis, malaria and blood sugar level, towards improving their general wellbeign and health conditions.

The Executive Director, Dr. Honestus Ayobami Obadiora expressed worry that a high percentage of community members in Nigeria especially women are vulnerable to illnesses, disability and even death due to lack of access to comprehensive health services, a situation that has made the country one of the highest in maternal mortality rates amongst developing nations.

He however expressed optimism that with the involvement and support of all stakeholders in health awareness creation and provision of medical facilities, the narratives of high maternal mortality in Nigeria would change.

Dr. Obadiora encouraged members of the public to imbibe the culture of regular medical checkup to facilitate early detection and management of health conditions, adding that routine health screening and awareness creation by the organization has contributed significantly to the wellbeing of community members.
