LAPO Makes Case For Agricultural Development

Lift Above Poverty Organization (LAPO) has urged the Edo State government to revamp the agricultural sector towards boosting food security in the State.

The organization enjoined the government to address the hydra-headed issues of food insecurity in the state, herdsmen-farmer crisis, poor access roads, inadequate storage and processing facilities, usage of harmful chemicals for foodstuff preservation, poor extension services, inadequate farming inputs and high-quality seedlings.

Speaking during an advocacy visit to the Edo State Ministry of Agriculture, the Executive Director, Dr Honestus Ayobami Obadiora said the organization was making significant contributions to the development of agriculture in the state.

In the financial year 2020, he said the organization disbursed 1.3billion naira to 6,835 rural farmers in 20 branches in the state to enable them expand their farm enterprises with improved income.

In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary, Mr Aikhuomobhogbe Uidia Peter appreciated the efforts of LAPO, and highlighted the initiatives and measures by government to improve the agricultural sector.
