LAPO Empowers Rural Farmers, Others With N6.3bn
Lift Above Poverty Organization (LAPO) improved the livelihood of rural farmers as well as supported micro businesses with a disbursement of N6.3 billion in the fourth quarter 2023.
The credit facilities were disbursed to 324,070 clients in 317 branches across 21 divisions through the LAPO Rural Development Initiative (LARDI), the microfinance segment of the organisation.
The Executive Director, Microfinance Segment, Dr. Victor Noruwa expressed the institution’s commitment to improving the income, food security and general living conditions of rural households, particularly women-headed households and youths.
Dr. Noruwa expressed worry that the agricultural sector is poorly funded and fraught with challenges despite its significant role in propelling the economic growth and development of the Nigerian economy.
He said the organisation supports rural farmers to overcome challenges hindering productivity and profitability in agribusiness and builds their capacity through on-farm demonstration, workshop and training programmes.
